Synopsis[]
An American corporal, with a bad attitude, tells Hogan he is a general in disguise with a mission to bomb a rocket plant.
Story Notes[]
- This is the twenty-third produced episode of the series, but is the twenty-fourth episode to be shown on television.
- Starting with this episode, Klink's desk and office is configured as most viewers know it - instead of facing his office door as in the first 20+ episodes, the desk is now to the right of the door after entering.
- Newkirk's reference to Petticoat Lane was to the famous fashion and clothing markets of London, Petticoat Lane Market.
- The code name used by the BBC in their broadcasts to relay orders to Hogan's organization is "Unsung Heroes."
- This is the only episode in which Newkirk demonstrates his knife-throwing skills.
Timeline Notes and Speculations[]
- References are made to the recent Allied bombing of the German rocket research facilities at Peenemunde, as well as other German "rocket plants." That would appear to place this episode in late August or early September of 1943.
- Chronologically, this occurs some time after The General Swap. In that episode, reference is made to the fact of General Barton being the first Allied general to come to Stalag 13. It also appears to take place not long before Hold That Tiger. LeBeau references the fact that he is the only French POW in Stalag 13 at this time ("I would love to hear someone speak French again"), so Tiger's visit to Stalag 13 has yet to occur.
Quotes[]
Bloopers[]
- Newkirk being able to throw a knife in this episode would not happen in reality since it would be considered a breach of security to allow prisoners to have anything that could be considered usable as a weapon.
- After the almost fight over cigarettes, Hogan tells Tillman to take a shower. You see him walk towards the back of the barracks with a towel, but there are no showers in the barracks and Tillman just disappears offscreen.
- Hogan tells LeBeau to get his camera ready - and then promises Helga he'll take the photos himself - though, ultimately LeBeau snaps the photos.
