Story Notes[]
- This is the twenty-first produced episode of the series, but is the twenty-third episode to be shown on television.
- In previous episodes, Kinch's radio equipment in the tunnel was on a table and right next to him was a tall bookcase with lots of radio parts. When the shot is his POV (over his shoulder), the end of the tunnel is a few feet away. Starting with this episode and for the rest of the series, the bookcase with radio parts is gone and now over his shoulder is another tunnel with a ladder and the ladder leading to the prisoners' famous bunk bed trap door upstairs is now clearly visible to his right.
- Two camp guards are on record as having deserted their posts. The subject of guard desertion also comes up again in Monkey Business.
- At the start, Schulz comments on "a children's game." In War Takes a Holiday, he mentions being the boss of the Schatze Toy Company.
Timeline Notes and Speculations[]
- This appears to take place in the spring of 1944, sometime prior to the Allied landings at Normandy, and before the first arrival of Captain Fritz Gruber in the episode Don't Forget to Write.
- Kinch mentions two things, Mary Noble Backstage Wife and the St. Louis Browns coming out on top of the ALDS. The St Louis Browns won the ALDS Pennant in 1944; however, they lost the world series. Kinch's mention that they came out in first place in the American league implies the season is over and it is the fall, however the rest of the episode implies it is before D-Day.
- There have been 293 unsuccessful escape attempts at Stalag 13 by this date - two of them by camp guards!
- Field Marshal von Streicher, Major Kuehn's uncle and patron, is killed on a bombing raid at the chemical works in Kaiserhof during this episode. Inexplicably, this news elicits huge guffaws on the laugh track.
